Watershed Forestry Program to Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary of Forest Stewardship in the New York City Watershed HIGHMOUNT- On Thursday, November 1, 2007, the Watershed Agricultural Council's (WAC) Forestry Program will formally celebrate ten years of supporting working forests in the Catskill/Delaware and Croton System of the New York City Watersheds. US Congressman Maurice Hinchey (D-Hurley) will be receiving the Karl Connell Forestry Award in recognition for continued committment and federal support of the Forestry Program's goals to sustain economic viability of forest-based enterprises while fostering improved land stewardship and maintaining superior water quality for 10 million downstate water consumers.
The 4th Annual Forestry Dinner will occur in conjunction with a Silent Auction featuring local products from members of the Catskill WoodNet and Pure Catskills "buy local" campaigns. The event has raised over $20,000 to benefit a stewardship endowment for farm and forestland conservation in the Catskills. I started out as a Sculptor in 1967. Since 1990 I have made furniture using solid wood and forged steel. The work is designed and built to last many generations and work well in any circumstance. My intention is to create objects that will never, ever get discarded at the end of a tag sale. On the contrary, a client's young sons are already arguing over who gets the dining room set. I believe that furniture acquires an extra value as it is used because every user leaves a mark, intended or not, that adds to its character and emotional connection.
